What Are Composite or Tooth-Coloured Fillings?

Composite or Tooth-Coloured FillingsComposite fillings can be a good option if you want fillings with a more natural appearance. These tooth-coloured fillings have become popular, probably due to their cosmetic benefit.

Key takeaways

  • Composite resin fillings are designed to blend in with the colour of your tooth enamel.
  • They are durable in small to mid-size fillings where chewing pressures are moderate.
  • Some studies indicate composite fillings may still need to be replaced earlier than amalgam fillings. However, composite fillings are non-toxic.

“Tooth-colored fillings are now used more often than amalgam or gold fillings, probably due to cosmetics. In a society focused on a white, bright smile, people tend to want fillings that blend with the natural color of their teeth.”
