A bridge can be made by using two crowns placed on teeth on either side of a space to “dangle” a third crown and give the effect of having a natural tooth in that space. Bridges can also be formed by attaching metal wings to the back of the teeth on one or both sides of a space, to give a similar effect.
In the photo below, the middle tooth is a porcelain crown, cemented onto a broken down tooth to protect it from the forces of chewing.
