Many children who fear a visit to the dentist inherit that fear from their parents. It is important that any personal anxiety about seeing the dentist is not communicated to a child through actions or words.
There are ways to make the child view a check-up as a good experience. Playing and pretending is one great way of doing this. At home, you can have a “pretend” visit to the dentist which includes:
– Gently touching the child’s teeth
– Simulating drilling sounds
– Explaining and showing what to expect
By turning the visit into a fun experience for the child you will “alleviate his or her fear of the dentist” and other tips can be found at https://www.workingmother.com/afraid-of-the-dentist
